photographer spotlight: jeff

happy monday friends! i'm back with another amazing photographer to share with you today. he shoots both film and digital....

please let me introduce you to:

1.) what draws you to photography?
Memory and a fascination with it. The fear of forgetting, as well. A perfect photograph to me is not one that's well composed or original but rather one that invoke some emotion. The tangible evidence of memory and emotion is why I take pictures.

2.) do you prefer digital or film? why?
This will probably sound odd but the only film I enjoy shooting is Polaroid. Probably because of the fact that you watch it develop in your hand. I'd rather shoot digital than 120 or 35mm. Which isn't to say I won't shoot any film but Polaroid but perhaps it's just that I haven't found a film camera that appeals to me the way my sx-70 alpha 1 or 600se does.

3.) what is your favorite camera to shoot with?
A tie. Polaroid 680se and Polaroid SX-70 Alpha 1. The 680se because is consistently takes amazing pictures and removes some of the guesswork that's involved with using expired film. The Alpha 1 for exactly the opposite reason. I can't figure it out. The exposure seems to change from pack to pack but when it's on- it's on.

4.) can you share three favorite photos you took & why you picked them?

- just a perfect little scene

- if you live in new york city and never look up you should move.

- because an empty beach is pretty much all around perfect.

5.) can you name a few photographers that have influenced your work?
probably the biggest influence on my personal style is not a photographer but the painter stephen hannock. as far as people who's work I admire I would point out kari aka harpy and andy aka ho_hokus. oh, and neal and I could name a ton more on flickr - where I do most of my photo surfing. lots of talented people there and plenty of inspiration.

jeff, thank you so much for participating in this week's spotlight! you can find more of jeff's work on flickr and his website. here are a few of my personal favorites, enjoy!
