i love amanda's work and her film only photography blog paper cameras is awesome, so much polaroid goodness to be found there! so i was very excited when amanda said i could profile her on my blog. i really enjoy learning more about my favorite flickr photographers and i hope you do too!

1.) what draws you to photography?

Oh, so many things...being able to create something completely new, to create art as only I can see it, to turn something I see into a memory frozen forever. Sometimes I prefer pictures to the real thing. The way light is captured on film is how I see the world.

2.) do you prefer digital or film? why?

I use both mediums, but deep down inside my soul I prefer film. I think things can look almost a bit too perfect and glossy with a digital camera. The results can be amazing but they often lack the grunt of film shots. I also love the fact that getting film developed is like waiting for a surprise. The fact that I can end up with a roll of duds makes me care more about what I shoot.

3.) what is your favorite camera to shoot with?

That's a hard question. If I was only allowed to bring one camera with me to a deserted island, I would have to choose the Polaroid SX 70. However, I've been pining for a Hasselblad 500CM for a very long time. Once I ever get my hands on one, the SX70 may have to take a back seat for a while.

4.) can you share three favorite photos you took & why you picked them?

- The first is a shot I took of my sister. She is often my model and always so willing to do whatever I ask of her, she looked so peaceful in this shot and the light in the trees behind her created something a little
magical.

- It's not really special, just a cupcake but I loved the light captured in this one. As soon as I took it, I knew I had nailed the light and it made me instantly happy. That polaroid will always remind me of the joy that can happen when shooting.

- is actually a selfie, which I hate shooting but I got the focus exactly where I wanted it (which isn't easy with a manual SX70) and the light was just right. It makes me feel pretty when I often do not.

5.) can you name a few photographers that have influenced your work?

I don't know if any of these photographers actually influence my work because I don't think I really create anything that has elements that are similar, however these are people who set the bench mark for me as to what I hope to aspire to in the future.

Osamu Yokonami is one photographer whose work I adore. I love the playful way he shoots children. Anton Corbijn has made a huge impact on my love of photography. The man is a genius and captures light like no other. His portraits are insanely good. Mikkel Vang has me salivating every time I see his work in magazines. He needs no introductions.

amanda, thank you so much for being in the spotlight this week! you can find more of amanda's beautiful photography over on flickr and her lovely blog mocking bird. now let me share with you a few of my personal favorites, enjoy!
