photographer spotlight: jenn

it's been 4 years now that i have been on flickr (a social photo sharing site) and over these past 4 years i have learned so much from photographers across the globe. i have made friends, been inspired to try new things and found my true passion in life. starting this month i will be sharing the work & words of some truly amazing people i have found on flickr. these are the people who keep me coming back to view their work over and over again. i asked them all to answer some questions and share a few of their favorite shots from their own work.

now let's get this party started and shine the spotlight on:

meet jenn a.k.a. 57mondays on flickr. jenn's work is full of life, you can just feel her passion through her photography. i love the fact that she shares bits of her everyday life, family photos, self portraits and intimate moments. they are all things that inspire me and pull me into her work. i asked jenn five questions to learn a little more about her.

1.) what draws you to photography?

the art of stopping time in a single image is what
draws me to photography! but what draws me to pick up my
camera at any given moment is the way light tickles an
object or the story that i want to capture in that moment!

2.) do you prefer digital or film? why?

right now i prefer digital because it's cheap and easy
and instantly gratifying.... i am a very impatient person so
digital photography sates that side of me.  :) but truly i
would love the time and space to run a roll of film
again....and the excitement and anticipation of what may
emerge from the negative to the positive!

3.) what is your favorite camera to shoot with?

i currently only use my Canon xti but i would love to
acquire a Hasselblad which i am SURE would be my favorite
camera to shoot with. i am working on getting a Canon 1d
as we speak but that may not happen.... i bet that would be
a great camera to shoot with too!

4.) can you share three favorite photos you took & why you picked them?

- i love this one of the feet for so many reasons. it was
such a sweet and pure moment between 2 children.

- i love this one of my hand because the story is
ambiguous...some see it as creepy, and some see it as
simplistic!  i think that is honors the work of those that
i am so inspired by!

- and this last one i really like because it is a moment of
childhood that almost everyone can relate to!

5.) can you name a few photographers that have influenced your work?

Henri Cartier-Bresson is by far a photographer that
inspires me in the way each of his images seems to convey
the whole "story" which i find so beautiful.  here on
flickr there are many photographers that inspire me but
first and foremost Roberta (Artetetra)  and Lee Jeffries
(LJ.) for their amazing play with light and emotion in
every single image that never cease to compel me to "think"
about the world around me!  their work draws me in like no
others!

jenn, thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions and sharing yourself with my readers! i would like to end this interview with a couple of my favorite shots from jenn's flickr stream.
